Founded in 1958, Fuyang Museum was designated as a national second-class museum with a collection of more than 126,000 cultural relics, including 64 first-class cultural relics, 316 second-class cultural relics and 2,303 third-class cultural relics. The museum houses 5,226 bamboo slips dated back to the Western Han Dynasty, of which 13 are inscribed on the national protection list of precious ancient books including The Book of Songs, Book of Changes, and Cangjiepian. It is now a provincial patriotic education base and youth moral education base.
The new Fuyang Museum is located in Shuangqingwan Park, Chengnan New District, officially opened on May 16, 2023, with a floor area of 39,000 square meters. It has a general history exhibition hall, relics exhibition halls and temporary exhibition halls. The general history hall named “Prosperous Fuyang—Fuyang Historical and Cultural Exhibition” shows the vicissitudes of Fuyang for nearly eight thousand years from the Neolithic period to the Republic of China. The relics exhibition halls include Revolutionary History Exhibition, Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition, Selected Bronze Mirrors Exhibition and Fine Cultural Relics Exhibition while the temporary exhibition halls are used to display high-level cultural relics across the country for international cooperation and exchange, providing the public a chance to enjoy diverse and multi-level cultural products and services.
