Fuyang is located in the northwest of Anhui Province, comprising three districts (Yingzhou, Yingdong, and Yingquan), four counties (Linquan, Taihe, Funan, and Yingshang) and Jieshou, a county-level city. Covering an area of 10,118 square kilometers and with a registered population of 10.81 million, Fuyang is one of the few prefecture-level cities in China with a population exceeding 10 million. It was recognized as a National Model City of Civilization in 2020.

As a city rich in cultural heritages, Fuyang is a historic city spanning over 3,000 years. Historically known as Ruyin, Yingzhou, Xinzhou, and Shunchang, it is the hometown of notable figures such as Jiang Ziya, Guan Zhong, and Bao Shuya. Many renowned literary figures like Ouyang Xiu, Su Shi, and Yan Shu served as officials here. The mutual trust between  Guan Zhong and Bao Shuya and their sincere cooperation has become a much-told tale through the ages, and the friendship between Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi despite the age gap has been passed down as a story in the literary circle. Su Song, an eminent prime minister in the Northern Song Dynasty, once praised Yingzhou as a blessed prefecture. The Yingzhou West Lake here was once as famous as the West Lake in Hangzhou. Su Shi wrote in his poem, “As the vicissitudes in this mundane world are insignificant in my eyes, why bother asking which one is better?” Fuyang also boasts its intangible cultural heritage including Fuyang paper-cutting, Linquan acrobatics, and Huanggang willow weaving, etc.

As a forward-looking city, Fuyang is a key city in the integration of the Yangtze River Delta and the high-quality development of the central region of China. It serves as a central city of the Huaihe River ecological economic belt and an inter-provincial central city of the Central Plains urban agglomeration region. From 2010 to 2020, Fuyang’s GDP growth rate ranked second among China’s prefecture-level cities, topping northern Anhui and making itself into top 100 list nationwide. It is one of top 100 cities in manufacturing in China, with the highest grain output and agricultural product processing output in Anhui.

As an industry prioritized city, It is one of top 100 cities in manufacturing in China. In 2023, the city’s industrial enterprises above designated size achieved nearly 200 billion yuan in operation revenue. Sticking to the policy of “building a manufacturing city through city-industry integration”, Fuyang focuses on developing eight advanced manufacturing sectors: new energy and energy conservation, green food, new energy vehicles and high-end equipment manufacturing, new materials, electronic information and optoelectronic displays, life health, green building materials, and high-end apparel fabric.

As a well-connected city, Fuyang is a crucial transportation hub in central region of China and a national logistics hub, linking the Yangtze River Delta with the Central Plains urban agglomeration region. It boasts the largest marshalling yard on the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, the second largest high-speed railway station, and the second largest civil aviation airport in Anhui. The city’s high-speed rail network covers the entire area, with the Beijing-Hong Kong and Beijing-Taiwan high-speed railways intersecting here. Its “#”-shaped highway network extends in all directions. Fuyang Yingzhou Port is the only thousand-ton container terminal in northern Anhui, with the Huaihe River and Shaying River waterways connecting to the Yangtze River and the sea.

As an open city, Fuyang emerges as a manufacturing and new energy base. It is rated as the best city for investment in the central region of China and a favourite city for investment by entrepreneurs from Jiangsu and Zhejiang. The city has established 10 provincial-level economic development zones with adequate infrastructure and has implemented mechanisms such as the “Saturday Consultation” and “Help and Assist Service” to guarantee key project elements implemented. Dedicated to serving the citizens and creating a favorable business environment, Fuyang fulfills its promises to solve problems for enterprises and provide strong support.

As a city with huge potential, Fuyang will leverage its strengths in location, transportation, policies, agriculture and population, achieving synergized development with the Hefei Metropolitan Circle and cooperation with Suzhou to expedite the construction of a Class I large city. Unswervingly implementing the high-quality, sustainable, catch-up development strategy, Fuyang will double its efforts to optimize its business environment, strengthen the work related to inbound investment promotion and talent recruitment, push forward the high-quality development of the private economic sector. Determined to be a pioneer in the all-round revitalization of northern Anhui, Fuyang has been striding forward toward a modern and prosperous future.
